Worthy Brothers,

Just a reminder, the "40 Cans for Lent" table is set up in the Gathering Space.  I am forwarding this to all our Knights as there was a low attendance at Mass this weekend due to the Snow Storm.
There was a article in the bulletin on 40 Cans for Lent.  Hence the Below article forwarded.
Knights of Columbus Council 9182 participates year around in Support of the Mason Food Bank.  SK Charlie Heiler and SK George Wygant spearhead this program here at St James Catholic Church in support of the Fr. Kusi’s Domestic Church Program.
Weekly donated food is gathered by SK Charlie Heiler and delivered to the Mason Food Bank and is recorded as donations for St James Catholic Church.  Annually, in the 1st week in June, the Knight obtains the poundage of food collected by St James, recorded monetary donations by the Knights Council, and reports it to Supreme.  The annual goal is a minimum of $500.00 and 4,000 pounds of food donated.  Refund received from Supreme is then applied to the next year’s budget for the Food for Family Program.
In keeping in the spirit of this program; Knights of the Columbus Council 9182 runs two specific programs annual.  The first is during Advent to ensure the Mason Food Bank has sufficient food stocks for families during the Holiday Season, and the second is during Lent.  We have emulated a program that you may have read in the Knight Times titled “40 Cans for Lent”.
In preparation for Our Lent Campaign, I extend my annual challenge to all my brother Knights and their family’s to either donate 40 cans of food products or $40.00 dollars to Knights of Columbus Council 9182 and in the Memo Line Food for Families.  The Council will cut a check to the Mason Food Bank, allowing them to buy the Product for which we cannot donate, i.e. meats, dairy, perishables etc.
In keeping with Fr. Kusi Domestic Church initiative, the Knights of Columbus is extending an invitation to the Parish at large to participate in our 40 Cans for Lent program, too support the Food for Families initiative in our local community, in specific, the Mason Food Bank.  There will be a table in the gathering space entitles 40 Cans for Lent.  Please place you donations there.  You are not limited to cans of food.  Inside the Bulletin is a list of food items the Mason Food Bank currently is looking to obtain.
This program is designed to support our local Community, and should not be confused with Food for the Poor and Operation Rice Bowl which address needs for outside our Community/Country.  In this day and age, it’s hard to believe that we still have many families that have income levels below the poverty line, Non Living Wage.  They require subsistence from organizations such as the Mason Food Bank, to make the income stretch between paychecks.  As we prepare to fast during this Lenten Season, let us remember those whom fast daily because they have insufficient food.
From the bottom of my heart, I thank each and every Knight and Parishioner for their continued support our Admission’s Degree Charge!
